Our vision: Exploring and protecting China's wild places
Our commitment to nature
We believe that sharing the scenic beauty and biodiveristy of China's national parks with the public, both in China and across the world, will lead to improved conservation outcomes, increase economic and social benefits for the local community, and have important health and educational value.
However, tourism in national parks should not compromise ecological protection; franchising in national parks is a way to ensure that the types of activities carried out in the national park meet a certain ecological and educational standard. Read about China's nascent national parks system and its pilot franchising system here.
Yunjoy Nature is a private company that has a franchisee license from the government -- we have special permission from the government to bring visitors into China's national parks and explore some of China's most beautiful and remote places, often places that visitors typically cannot go alone.
Our day-to-day work primarily entails going into the field to explore and chart potential hikes and driving routes, collaborating with local governments to create low-impact visitation routes, and taking visitors into national parks via single-day or multi-day tours. Since we do such a wide variety of work, our team is also very diverse - we are a motley team of local guides, researchers, and policy-workers.
Our commitment to you
Our visitor-facing services mainly fall under guiding, logistics, and education. We sometimes also provide training for nature guides and environmental educators, host forums and events, and host volunteers in China's national parks. Please contact us to learn more about our tours and these special opportunities!
Guiding: Our trips are led by a combination of locals, researchers, local flora and fauna experts, and national park policy experts to provide a fun physical and mental adventure into China's most wild places. We lead day trips, overnight road trips, hiking trips, camping trips, and more.
Logistics: Need help planning your own trip? We know the ins and outs of traveling inside national parks in China and can help with logistics, including which areas are and are not open to the public.
Education: Our staff includes environmental education teachers who have worked around the world. We have collaborated with international schools and tour agency partners to bring students to China's national parks on week-long trips. Contact us to learn more!
Our commitment to the local community
As a social enterprise, 40-70% of our revenue each year goes back to local communities through direct employment, purchasing local goods and services, supporting local businesses, and collaborating with the government to improve local infrastructure like national park visitor centers and environmental education exhibits.
In Three-River-Source National Park, local herders play various roles, such as scientific guides, logistics managers, and drivers, and actively participate in visitors' ecological experiences. Herders, by sharing local culture and ways of interacting with nature, become key leaders in ecological tourism activities. In 2023, ecological experiences and ecological study activities in the national park engaged over 500 local herders, with 20% of the income from these ecological experiences directly returning to these herders. Our training programs for the herder community, coupled with their involvement in ecological activities, have heightened their awareness, initiative, and enthusiasm for nature conservation. This, in turn, alleviates the developmental pressures brought by ecological conservation on the community, fostering a harmonious relationship between the local herder community and the national park.
